History of Fundo
History: Fundo Village School began with the children receving their schooling under the trees on the current site since the 1940s. In 2006, Mr Asiku Gift Olema convened a consultative meeting with the elders in Fundo to start the construction of Fundo Parent’s Primary School. Gift championed the school building project and it was supported by several community members, including but not limited to Mr Belino Akuonzi, Late Hon. Arubaku Stephen, Hon. Afidra Ronald, Mr Anguyo Sunday, Mr Andama George, Mr Gregorio Bakole and several other elders who have contributed significantly to the school.
The families of the late Debele and the late Marichelo Olema received full support from the elders of Fundo Community to allocate land for the construction of the school in 2007. A significant amount of funding for the construction of the school came from connections with the Church of Uganda. The late Hon. Arubaku Stephen advocated for the Government of Uganda's “Education is a Right for All Children” program to support the school, and in 2012 a three-classroom block was constructed, UPE status was granted, and the government assigned 5 teachers to the school. The name changed to Fundo Primary School.
To date, parents still contribute hugely towards the school. In 2014, Ma’di and West Nile Diocese blessed the “Panyarube” Church of Uganda to start Church Services at the school to provide a place for worship for both the community and the school. Several other non-governmental organisation and individuals have significantly contributed to learning and teaching at Fundo School, including Book Aid International, Right to Play UK, Plan International, Unicef, UNHCR, as well as Gift’s friends from Germany, Australia, USA, UK and Uganda.
