Eco sanitary pads for girls
Two of the team taking the packs of eco sanitary pads ready for transportation from Entebbe to Fundo.
We recently raised funds to supply 70 senior girls at Fundo Primary school with a pack of re-usable sanitary pads and underwear. These are made by a fabulous local tailoring project in Entebbe, which we had the privilege of visiting. They also provide skills and employment to young people.
Sadly many girls have to miss school for one week every month when they are on their period. This is also a reason for an alarmingly high rate of girls dropping out of school altogether. These resources are vital to enabling girls to get an education with dignity.
The tailors have improved the design of the pads over time, following feedback from the girls and women who have used them. The latest design is even more discrete, and can be hung to dry on a washing line without looking like a sanitary pad!
Some of the women in the team talked to senior girls about the pads and showed them how to use and wash them. The boys in the older class were included too to raise awareness among all the young people.
We were delighted to provide packs of re-usable sanitary pads for all the senior girls. Some pupils at Fundo School are beyond primary school age due to disruptions to their learning preventing the timely completion of their primary education.
